05. weekend to-do's

  1. tidy up! i just finished reading "the life-changing magic of tidying up: the japanese art of decluttering and organizing" by marie kondo. marie's method is to simply discard any belongings that do not "spark joy". i love the idea of keeping a minimalist home and surrounding myself only with the things i truly love.
  2. treat my sweaters to some tlc. i've been living in my cozy wool sweaters for the past month. to keep them looking their best, i recommend hand-washing them with the laundress' wool and cashmere shampoo. it has a warm cedar scent and is far more gentle on your clothes than dry cleaning. for extra credit, use a sweater stone to gently remove the pills that can start to appear after some wear.
  3. make a theater date. "father comes home from the wars (parts 1, 2, & 3)", is currently at the american repertory theater at harvard. written by pulizer prize-winning playwright suzan-lori parks, the play is set during the civil war and loosely based on homer's "odessy".
  4. start my sunday off at viale in central square. their brunch menu debuted last week to raves and i can't wait to check out the sticky buns and breakfast pizza!

  1. support local music. heading to see kingsley flood on friday night at the sinclair in cambridge. this venue is by far my favorite to both see and play live music. the sound is always great and i am never disappointed by the food and cocktails served up at the restaurant.
  2. give my skin a little love. since i have super sensitive skin, this weekend i am making a batch of raw apple cider vinegar + green tea facial toner. i hate harsh chemical filled toners and the havoc they wreak on my face. green tea has anti-inflammatory properties that help reduce redness and apple cider vinegar restores your skin's natural ph balance. i follow with murad's perfecting night cream to complete my "happy face" routine.
  3. work hard and bliss out at the 4:30 pm all levels yoga class with deep relaxation at the corner studio in medford. with its reclaimed wood beams, natural color palette and jade plant wall, it has a warm and intimate vibe that makes getting into a zen state of mind easy.

04. travelogue: muir beach

it's been a little over four months since i last visited san francisco. i still think about my day trip north to the muir woods area every day. there are few places as beautiful as the cliffs overlooking muir beach on a foggy autumn morning. this dreamy spot is about 9 miles west of sausalito, where redwood creek travels through the mountains of muir woods and meets up with the pacific ocean. the scenic cliffs can (and should) be followed along the coast for miles.

if you find yourself heading to san francisco, it is well worth the short detour north for a half day to explore this gorgeous place. get out of the city and get your own slice of heaven.

03. weekend to-do's

  1. start clicking "refresh" until i get tickets to one of bjork's spring performances in new york city. the residency will support the release of vulnicura, her first full album in 4 years. MoMA has announced a bjork retrospective opening on march 7th to coincide with the shows.
  2. head to the record store to pick up my copy of sleater-kinney's fantastic new album no cities to love. it's a thoroughly satisfying listen for longtime fans and a perfect introduction to the band for carrie brownstein admirers who are most familiar with her work on portlandia.
  3. binge-watch season 2 of the fall on netflix. this week's premier is exciting news for those of us who've been hooked since the first season streamed back in 2013. if you haven't checked it out, the eternally awesome gillian anderson is reason enough to hit play.
  4. refrain from purchasing every item in everlane's new winter lookbook. the dreamy color palette is keeping me excited for the next few months of winter in new england.
  1. sit down with a bourbon green tea hot toddy and dig into my new book "show your work" by austin kleon. this was on my christmas list in an attempt to further my creative ventures in 2015. it's chock-full of tips to encourage one to stop worrying and start sharing their creative work.
  2. greenify my apartment! going to head over to niche in the south end to spruce up my indoor plant situation and bring some life into the house. now that winter is in full swing, i am dreaming of spring and this place will do just the trick.
  3. get those pictures developed! i have taken so many pictures over this past year, but where do they go? to no where land. goal: make a soft cover book of images by year, starting with 2014. it would be so nice to have a place to keep all the daily sightings and inspirations in one place to tell a story of my time.
  4. search for a very special local tattoo artist. i have been lusting after each of these hand-drawn, carefully considered tattoos by miso for some time now. unfortunately, a trip to australia is not in the budget, so i am on the hunt for a local artist with a delicate hand, artful mind and precise nature. suggestions very welcome!

02. january playlist

this will be the first in a series of monthly playlists that we will be sharing with you. january.15 is a set of songs that we would want to listen to on a snowy evening at home, fuzzy slippers and hot tea on hand. enjoy the wintery vibes.

01. reason to celebrate

we are so excited to start this new year by introducing catalogue. this site will be an opportunity for us to share and appreciate the loveliness in the everyday. local objects created by talented neighbors, a song that perfectly captures a mood, that first cup of coffee that has the power to transform your morning. let’s celebrate the little things that make life more beautiful.
